Iteration three: Anopheli
Lyrics that appear between // and // are not sung on the album but are integral to the story.
Construct as The Sentinel:
I am sentinel
Wanderer and hollow shell
Corporeal pain in being
Crippled by the weight of my vision
The valour of chlorophyll
Splendid march and eminence
Of colonies and citadels
Of cities in the minuscule
In sand and earth and under brush
And counterparts in stone and steel
The forging of the wheel
Of aqueducts and politics
//The chatter of marine mammals
Encompass language unbeknownst //
To wardens above the frigid wave
Whose weaponed steal enfold a promise
Not honour or bravery
But one of blood, of death, of pain,
Of epitaphs
Of cruel misfortune
A covenant of teeth!
A genetic entropy
The fallopian, canal and stark reality
The scream, the dragging pull of air
The child, the adolescent
The first kiss, the fuck and broken heart
The failure, the triumph,
The paths one might have chosen
The pain of loss,
The ache of want
A hunger rarely sated
One to feel the searing bullet
Pierce the brain, the shattering of it
The consequence of exploding matter
A shard of clear intention
//And at once a life time
Spread across emphatic heavens
Neuronic mist, the storm of sheering
Senses torn and ruptured memories
I have seen Chicxulub melt like glass
And the great beasts felled in the aftermath
Skies vomit smog and choke the sun
And glaze with rigour mortis
I have seen like no other
The rallying cry of life’s indulgence
In death the glorious endlessness
That which all have craved
And now I wish it
To shed this shroud and sigil
Brace the intimate mortal
And die amongst its coils
What good is godhood
To a creature incomplete?
My resolution, a trillion pixels
paints our diptych perfectly
So I wish for none of them
No dictum, creed or majesty
Autonomy my only prize
To live, and live a simple life
The stuff of gods I leave to you
For the multiverse can thrive
Can iridesce, destroy and birth
Without the hand of governance
Every once in a while there’s a band that comes along and ignites a muted flame that has been numbed by this wicked system of thieves.
Makes me wish I was still in crust band, screaming at the kids.
No surrender surrender. No surrender in sight. shawnslaught
The San Francisco quartet’s latest effort takes their post-metal to atmospheric new heights, with a resultant sound bordering on the transdimensional. Bandcamp Album of the Day Sep 20, 2018
This album breaks conventions with most post-metal. It at once can be played next to shoegaze then breaks out into a fury of aggression and still remain catchy. For my money Rosetta are at the top of the food chain. After all the amazing albums Rosetta has, it boggles the mind that they can still innovate and surprise me. I love that I can play this next to bands as diverse as Ride, Slowdive, Joy Division, The Cure, Godflesh, and Neurosis. It's a pure delight on the ears. Bryon Wilson
